JJ Pearce High School graduating senior Caitlyn Shuping is a nationally ranked pool player headed to Austin College in the fall to study international relations and art history. Shuping’s grandmother took custody of her and her brother at the age of five after discovering abuse by their stepdad. With the support of her extended family in Texas and academic programs like AVID, Shuping has thrived both in the classroom and on the pool table. From our May 2001 cover story.
