New discount store coming to Preston and Alpha

You know that white building with the tinted windows next to Entertainmart? It’s been vacant for about 18 months but in early March, it will become home to a Family Dollar. The space at Preston and Alpha was previously occupied by Edwin Watts golf store, which moved down the street to Belt Line.

Perren Gasc with the Weitzman Group says the new discount store should open by March 7 or 8. Weitzman had been working on the lease for about a year and has left about 2,400 square feet of space for a new sit-down, casual restaurant to come in next door.

There is already a 99 cent store across the street as well as an Aldi grocery store. Gasc says it’s not uncommon for these stores to coexist in the same area as long as there is a demand for it in the neighborhood.

“These stores tend to cluster up,” he says. “They have a stereotype about them, but they’re are actually nice, clean operations that sell good stuff.”
