Having just opened last November, Olive Tree Market and Cafe has closed for renovations with plans to re-open in July.
The 14,500 square-foot space that is part cafe and part grocery store specializes in Greek, Turkish and Middle Eastern fare. It has some of the best hummus in town, and their kunefe dessert is to die for. We featured the new place in our March issue. The owners came from the much-loved Shine’s Mediterranean Market, which closed its location at the southeast corner of Preston and Belt Line.
Olive Tree’s renovation will yield an updated butcher shop and bakery. They plan to add more American items to the grocery store and install a salad bar on the restaurant side.
“There will be a lot of changes throughout the store,” says Yustun Yasa, one of the restaurant partners.
He says the owners also are working out an issue with the landlord regarding an large outstanding balance on the rent. Yasa is confident that won’t keep them from re-opening. Hopefully he’s right.
Olive Tree aims to open by mid-July in time for the Muslim holiday, Ramadan.
