Pearce alumnus Adam Bull (pictured above), along with Greenhill grad Claire Brandt, are trying out for the USA Olympic Team next week.
Claire Brandt and Adam Bull are going to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha next week to compete for a spot on the USA swim team. These neighborhood alumni are vying for spots alongside Michael Phelps, Ryan Lochte and other swimmers already at the Olympic level.
Brandt, a Greenhill School graduate, qualified to compete in the 200-meter backstroke and the 50-meter freestyle races last summer at the Junior Nationals in Palo Alto, Calif. She’ll head to Omaha next Wednesday to compete with 150- to 200 other swimmers for just two spots in each event. In the fall, she plans to attend Texas A&M.
“I’m not really going in with the goal of making the team. I’m just going for the experience and to get personal best times,” Brandt says.
No matter what happens next week, she says she will continue training for a more realistic chance at the Olympic team in four years.
Adam Bull, a Pearce High School graduate, qualified at the Junior Nationals in Orlando, Fla., this past March. He will compete in the 400-meter individual medley. Swimming icons Phelps and Lochte also will be competing for the two spots in this event.
“I feel like it’s gonna be a really exciting experience,” Bull says. “I don’t think I’ll make the Olympic team, but I’m definitely not going to hold back.”
In the fall, Bull will become a University of Florida Gator.
