While we were celebrating the Fourth of July at Bowie Elementary, a somewhat bizarre shooting occurred in the 15500 block of Spring Creek Place just off Coit and Arapaho.
Dallas Police responded to the call at about noon Wednesday. According to the police report, 82-year-old Nicolas Markin came into his daughter Martha Brady’s backyard. When her husband, Douglas Brady, went outside to confront him, Markin grabbed a gun he had hidden in the grass and shot Brady at least twice, hitting him in the arm and abdomen. He was rushed to Parkland Hospital, and is now in good condition.
The police report states that after shooting Brady, Markin (still holding the gun) went inside the house and tried to enter to locked bedroom where his daughter and two grandchildren were hiding. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
The Dallas Morning News reported that Markin was estranged from his daughter and son-in-law, and neighbors said he may be mentally ill.
