Late last month, Lalo’s Fine Mexican Cuisine opened on Preston just north of Frankford. The menu is Mexican style, not Tex-Mex like most places in the area. Though, to be competitive with the other popular restaurants around Dallas, Lalo’s does offer a few Tex-Mex options on their menu, their chicken enchiladas being the most popular.
The owner, Lalo Guzman, originally from Mexico, wants to serve authentic Mexican dishes. Guzman says their sopes are the best option on the menu. Sopes are handmade corn tortillas with black beans, brisket, lettuce and cheese.
Lalo’s offers a full bar with strawberry and mango margaritas, twisters (a margarita mixed with their handmade Sangria) and many other drinks to choose from. There’s also a patio and outdoor waiting area in which dogs are welcome.
Guzman had a dream of opening his own Mexican restaurant for years. He has worked with a few of the MCrowd restaurants around Dallas. When he was finally able to achieve his goal, he brought his own family into the business. “We want to make you feel like you’re part of the family,” the manager says, “if you don’t feel like that, we aren’t doing it right.”
